Sales Notes

The Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources (DCMNR) intends to introduce a comprehensive regime for the collection of sales notes in Ireland from 1 January 2007, as required under Article 9 of the EU Control Regulation, Council Regulation 2847/1993, Consolidated Version (pdf 1,713Kb) and Council Regulation (EEC) No 2847/93 of 12 October 1993 establishing a control system applicable to the common fisheries policy.

As a first step, all potential buyers of first sale fish, both national and international, will be required to register with DCMNR if they intend to purchase first sale fish landed into Ireland. A 'registered buyer' is a person, partnership or body corporate that purchases first sale fish.

Registration can be completed online via the Sea Fisheries Portal - www.fishingnet.ie

From January 1, 2007 it will be an offence to purchase first sale fish without having previously registered with DCMNR.

In order to become a 'registered buyer' you must have the following documentation:

Limited Company/Partnership/Co-Ops

  1. Certificate of Incorporation
  2. Confirmation of VAT Registration: Notification of VAT Registration or VAT receipt or Acknowledgement from the Revenue of VAT payment
  3. Proof of Name of Primary Contact. A photocopy of a current passport or current Irish or EU driving licence
  4. Proof of Address of Company. A copy of a utility bill or bank statement
  5. Proof of Authority to Register on behalf of Company. A letter signed by all partners of company directors or a letter from the head of the corporate body on headed paper stating who has the Authority to sign on behalf of the company

Sole Trader

  1. PPSN
  2. Confirmation of VAT Registration, Notification of VAT Registration, or VAT receipt. Acknowledgement from the Revenue of VAT payment
  3. Proof of Name of Primary Contact. A photocopy of a current passport or current Irish or EU driving licence
  4. Proof of Address of Sole Trader. A copy of a utility bill or bank statement
