Subject:                                         Trócaire response to Consultation for Scoping of Environmental Report for Agri-Food Strategy 2025

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am emailing in relation to the consultation on the scope of the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) of the Draft Agri-Food Strategy 2025.

At the April Scoping Workshop, my colleague, Niamh Garvey, provided comments on the scope both orally and in writing (on the response document circulated during the meeting).

The importance of incorporating existing policies into the SEA process was raised, including (inter alia) Ireland’s CO2 emissions reduction commitments to 2020 (and to 2030 as part of the EU’s Climate and Energy Package), obligations under EU biofuels/bioenergy legislation, as well as  commitments on Policy Coherence for Development under EU law (as discussed in Irish Aid’s White Paper).

I would be grateful if Niamh Garvey’s oral and written comments could be taken into account and that this be considered Trócaire response to the consultation.

We look forward to engaging further with the Department on this process. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate do contact me.

Kind regards,

Jerry Mac Evilly
