Minister Coughlan announces increase in Dairy Export Refunds

The Minister for Agriculture and Food, Mary Coughlan T.D., welcomed the increases in export refund rates for butter and WMP agreed at today's Milk Management Committee in Brussels. The common refund rate for butter increased from €96.50 to €99.50/100kg and the maximum tender refund rate for butter increased €103.40 to €106.70/100kg. This follows increases in the common and tender refund rates for butter in February and March. The export refund rate for WMP was also increased from €50.00 to €54.00/100kg (up 8%). All of these measures take effect immediately.

Minister Coughlan said that these measures would improve the competitive position of EU and Irish products on the world market. The Minister has continually pressed the Commission to take account of the difficult market conditions experienced by EU traders. The Minister was in contact with European Commissioner Fischer Boel as recently as the 12th of April advocating increases in export refunds for milk products to assist EU traders and appreciated her response.
