The Minister for Agriculture and Food, Mary Coughlan T.D., announced that she had appointed Dr Noel Cawley to act as the independent chairman of the Farmers Charter Monitoring Committee. Dr Cawley is the former Chief Executive of the Irish Dairy Board.

The purpose of the Farmers Charter Monitoring Committee is to monitor

  • progress towards achieving other targets established under the Charter and
  • standards of service in respect of schemes to which the Charter applies.

The Committee comprises nominees of the main farming organisations and officials of the Department of Agriculture and Food. The Minister said that the Dept was fully committed to a quality customer service and the Monitoring Committee plays an important role in ensuring the targets for the various schemes operated by the Department are achieved.
