Coughlan welcomes appointment of Mary Wallace as Minister opf State for the Department of Agriculture and Food

The Minister for Agriculture and Food, Mary Coughlan TD, along with her colleague Minister Brendan Smith TD, today congratulated Ms Mary Wallace TD on her appointment as Minister of State at the Department.

In welcoming the appointment, Minister Coughlan said that she looked forward to continuing the constructive and fruitful team effort which she enjoyed with Minister John Browne prior to his move to the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources.

Minister Coughlan said that Minister Browne had made a significant contribution during his term of office with the Department especially in the area of Forestry where he played a key role in brokering a very favourable deal for the forestry sector under the Framework for Rural Development last year.

In conclusion Minister Coughlan said that her colleague was joining the Department at a time of immense change in the agriculture scene at national, EU and international level following the introduction of the Single Payment Scheme and the upcoming WTO negotiations.
