Minister Smith acknowledges contribution of Centra Foodstores to Irish Food Sector

Speaking at the presentation of the National Hygiene Mark to 250 Centra Stores, Mr Brendan Smith T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food, (with special responsibility for the Food Industry) congratulated Centra's Stores and the Excellence Ireland Quality Association for their continued commitment to excellence in food hygiene control.

Minister Smith paid tribute to the "dedication and professionalism of the Centra Group" while recognising that a "customer-focussed retail sector benefits everybody in the food industry, from the producer right through to the final consumer". Minister Smith was particularly enthused by the growing number of stores receiving this award each year, noting that there was much cause for optimism among all participants in the retail food sector.

The National Hygiene Mark is awarded to participants who successfully complete the Excellence Ireland Quality Association, hygiene programme. This programme is open to all food business operators and is geared towards encouraging high standards of food safety, hygiene practices, education and training in the food sector.
