Minister Coughlan announces appointments to Board of Coillte

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Mary Coughlan T.D., today announced that she had made three appointments to the Board of Directors of Coillte Teoranta.

Minister Coughlan advised that she had re-appointed the Chairman, Mr. Brendan McKenna for a further five-year period. She also announced the re-appointment of Mr Breffni Byrne and the appointment of Dr Yvonne Scannell to the Coillte Board.

Announcing the appointments, the Minister commented, "Coillte, as the state forestry company, plays an important role in the forestry sector. One of the objects of the company is to carry on the business of forestry and related activities on a commercial basis and in accordance with efficient silvicultural practices. Forestry is a multi-faceted business and it is therefore important to have a Board of Directors with the requisite experience and expertise. I am pleased that Mr. Brendan McKenna and Mr. Breffni Byrne have accepted my invitation to continue as members of the Board for a further five years while I am also pleased that Dr. Yvonne Scannell has also agreed to serve as Director as she brings a wealth of knowledge on environmental matters to the company. I am sure that all three will make a significant contribution to the running of the company".
