Coughlan travelling to Brussels for meeting with Commissioner Mandelson

Following on from her meeting with her German counterpart earlier this week and contacts with her Ministerial counterparts in the Council on Monday of last week, Minister Coughlan T.D. Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has now arranged a further meeting with Commissioner Mandelson on Tuesday afternoon next.

Minister Coughlan said that she would be using this opportunity to outline her dissatisfaction with the current direction of the talks on WTO and the serious difficulties that could emerge for Irish agriculture.

The Minister said that she and her Department have been continuing their consultations with the Irish agri-food interests. Last evening she had discussions with beef processors on detailed aspects of the proposed access arrangements and the Minister met with the President of the IFA Mr Padraig Walshe earlier this morning.
