Closure of 2007 Sow Housing (Animal Welfare) Scheme

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Mary Coughlan TD, today announced the closure of the 2007 Sow Housing (Animal Welfare) Scheme for new applications. The Minister stated that a sum of €6 million had been allocated to this Scheme by the 2007-2013 Rural Development Programme.

As applications had now reached this level of funding, the Minister stated that she was closing the Scheme for new applications with effect from today, 25 April 2008.

Any applications for grant-aid under the 2007 Scheme received by the Department after the close of business today would therefore be returned to farmers.

The Minister confirmed that all applications received prior to the closing date would be processed in the usual manner and that approval to proceed with the investment works concerned would be issued to all eligible applicants who had submitted applications under the Scheme.

Date Released: 25 April 2008
