Department of Agriculture Invites Submissions on Organic Farming Scheme
On 29 July the Minister for Food and Horticulture, Mr Trevor Sargent TD, announced a review of the Organic Farming Scheme under which support is paid to farmers in the sector. The review would look at how available funds can be used to best effect to deliver increased organic production and expand the area of farmland in the sector.
As part of this review, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is developing a set of criteria for selecting those applications that are most likely to contribute to the objectives above. The Department invites submissions from stakeholders in the organic sector and from the general public. Submissions should be sent by email if possible to organics@agriculture.gov.ie , or by post to the Organic Unit, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Johnstown Castle Estate, Co Wexford. The deadline for submissions is Friday, 4 September.
