Minister Smith Presents RDS Pedigree Cattle Awards at the RDS

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith TD, today presented the prizes at the fourth annual RDS Champion of Champions cattle breeding awards at the RDS in Dublin. The awards are designed to reward the best breeder in a number of beef and dairy cattle breeds.

The Minister thanked the RDS for organising this competition again and said that it has become a highlight of the year for all pedigree breeders. The aim of the event is to acknowledge and reward excellence in pedigree cattle production. "The strong tradition in pedigree cattle breeding in Ireland is a major asset to our beef and dairy industries. I am delighted to both acknowledge and reward these breeders here today for their valuable contribution to the sector".

Minister Smith went on to say that close co-operation by all cattle breeders with the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF) will ensure a profitable and sustainable livestock sector for all stakeholders. The accurate identification of the most profitable animals by ICBF for our production systems was key to a sustainable and profitable sector for all stakeholders in the sector, he said.

In conclusion, the Minister congratulated the winners of the competition for their ongoing efforts and commitment to the pedigree sector.
