Minister Smith confirms payment of additional €100 Million under Farm Waste Management Scheme

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith TD, today confirmed payment of a further €100 million to farmers by way of early payment of the final instalment of 20% of the grant-aid due to farmers under the Farm Waste Management Scheme.   The Minister stated that this early payment had been made possible due to savings elsewhere in the Department's Vote and that remaining farmers would receive the final instalment of grant-aid due under the Scheme in early 2011.  14,758 payments to farmers had been made possible under the Scheme by the re-allocation of the savings concerned.

The Minister stated:   "I am pleased to have been able to bring forward these payments to so many farm families at this time of the year which has brought total expenditure under the Scheme in 2010 to €297 million."
