Minister Sargent encourages Producers and Public to vote to decide new EU Organic Logo - On-line voting deadline is January 31st

In July 2010, a new EU logo for organic products will be introduced throughout the European Union. Contrary to the existing EU organic logo, which can be used voluntarily, the use of the new logo will be compulsory for all pre-packaged organic products that originate in the 27 Member States.

The new logo will indicate to European consumers that the organic product has achieved a specified level of quality that is standard throughout the entire EU. The logo ensures that the products it appears on are genuinely organic - from the farm to the fork.

Three Logo designs were selected from submissions made by over 3,400 students from all 27 EU Member States. Online voting is now open until January 31st to decide the winning logo.

Commenting on the online voting competition Minister Sargent said "The new EU Organic Logo will become a very familiar sight to Irish and European shoppers. This is a great opportunity for Irish producers and consumers to decide which logo is chosen. I would encourage everyone to cast their vote before the end of the month".
