Ministers announce the establishment of Nitrates Review Expert Advisory Group

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith TD, and the Minister for Environment, Heritage and Local Government, John Gormley TD have announced the establishment of the Nitrates Review Expert Advisory Group, which held its first meeting on 23 July 2010.

The Group has been convened to review the submissions received in response to the consultation process on Ireland's second Nitrates Action Programme, and to advise the two Ministers accordingly. The public consultation process closed on 23 July 2010 and it is intended that the Expert Advisory Group will make its recommendations to the two Ministers by mid September 2010.

The Group comprises senior scientific experts from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government , the Environmental Protection Agency, and Teagasc. It is chaired jointly by ex - Secretaries General of the two Departments, John Malone and Niall Callan.
