Minister Smith confirms delegation of functions to Ministers of State Connick and Cuffe

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith TD, today confirmed that An Taoiseach, Brian Cowen TD has signed Delegation Orders, delegating specific statutory functions to the Ministers of State at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Sean Connick TD and Ciarán Cuffe TD.

Statutory powers and duties in relation to fisheries and forestry have been delegated to Minister of State Sean Connick TD.

Statutory powers and duties in relation to horticulture and organics have been delegated to Minister of State Ciarán Cuffe TD.  In addition to these statutory powers and duties, Minister Cuffe will also have responsibility for a range of other areas, including farmers' markets, farm shops, An Foras Orgánach, bees, carbon food labelling and the voluntary GM logo (the introduction of which is committed to in the Renewed Programme for Government).

Minister Smith welcomed the delegation of functions and said that he had "enjoyed a very close working relationship with my Ministerial colleagues and I look forward to maintaining that relationship and delivering on the commitments contained in the Renewed Programme for Government".
