Minister Smith congratulates HRI chief executive on election as chairman of European and Mediterranean Horseracing Federation

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith TD, today congratulated the Chief Executive of Horse Racing Ireland (HRI), Brian Kavanagh, on his election as the first chairman of the new European and Mediterranean Horseracing Federation (EMHF).

Minister Smith described his election as a "tremendous honour" for Mr Kavanagh personally as well as for the Irish horseracing industry and HRI.  Mr Smith said it demonstrated Mr Kavanagh's "high personal standing among his European and Mediterranean colleagues as well as the high regard in which Horse Racing Ireland is held internationally."

The Minister wished Mr Kavanagh every success in his term as chairman of the EMHF and said that he had no doubt that he would do a "tremendous job in pursuing the Federation's objectives as well as further enhancing the international reputation of the Irish horseracing industry generally and of HRI in particular."
