Minister Coveney confirms publication of EU Agricultural Payments Information

The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney TD today announced that his Department has published on its website information on payments to legal entities that are beneficiaries of EU funded and co-funded schemes. The information now being published relates to the 2010 EU financial year and provides details of direct payments such as the single farm payment, amounts received under market support schemes such as export refunds and amounts paid out of the rural development fund.

This information is being released in accordance with European Union legislation aimed at improving transparency in relation to expenditure incurred in implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy. Last year the European Court of Justice found the EU legislation on this subject to be invalid in so far as it concerns natural persons. Therefore only data relating to legal persons is now being published.

Minister Coveney said that the programmes underpinning these payments are crucial elements of EU and national policy aimed at sustaining and developing the vital agrifood sector and supporting the role of farmers as custodians of the rural environment.
