Minister McEntee presents Organic Educational Awards at An t-Ionad Glas College

Speaking today at the presentation of National Certificates and Diploma Awards to graduates of An t-Ionad Glas Organic College, Drumcollogher, Co. Limerick, Shane McEntee, T.D, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine congratulated the College and the students for their commitment to the Organic Sector.

Minister McEntee commended the College on the provision of quality courses in organic growing and sustainability over a 21 year period since its foundation in 1991. "The practical elements of the courses combined with the theoretical knowledge gained are invaluable" said Minister McEntee. Referring to An tIonad Glas as the original driving force for Organic Education in Ireland, Minister McEntee acknowledged the vision of the college and its partners in developing a distance learning initiative which continues to be such a resounding success.

"My job is to encourage you to use the knowledge and expertise that you have gained in this College, to avail of the market opportunities that clearly exist and by doing so, maximise your potential income" said the Minister. Minister McEntee also stated that he is pleased that applications are now being accepted for the 2012 Organic Farming Scheme.

An t-Ionad Glas, Drumcollogher, Co. Limerick, founded in 1991, were the original driving force for Organic Education in Ireland developing and running the first Nationally Certified Courses in the country. At the moment, the college has 40 Year 1 students, 20 Year 2 students and a further 40 Distance Learning Students.
