Minister of State Tom Hayes T.D. Attends the Bansha Agricultural and Industrial Show, Bansha, Co. Tipperary 21st August 2013

Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Tom Hayes T.D, attended the annual Bansha Agricultural and Industrial Show today in Bansha Co. Tipperary.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister commended the high standard of entry in all classes and said the show was an excellent community event for the South Tipperary region. It was an example of how an area could work together to help farms and small businesses create jobs, and provide opportunities for producers throughout rural Ireland.

Mr. Hayes said ‘The excellent community spirit shown by the organisers of this wonderful event shows how committed people are to the customs and traditions of rural Ireland. Bansha show allows for all sections of the community to enjoy a great day out, and helps to connect consumers of food to producers’.

The Minister added that “the success of the Agri-food and drink sector is a vital part of our export led recovery, and is a significant employer across Tipperary. In 2012 the sector surpassed the €9 billion mark in exports for the first time and remains on track to deliver the ambitious targets set out in Food Harvest 2020. ”

The Minister also referred to the recent CAP agreement secured under the Irish Presidency and said that “the changes mark a useful and progressive reform of the CAP making it fit for purpose to 2020. The changes are consistent with the objectives and ambitious targets of Food Harvest 2020 and provide farmers and the industry with policy certainty for the years to come”.

Minister Hayes thanked the organizers and the chairman Danny O’Connell in particular for the great voluntary effort in staging the show. In conclusion he wished all the visitors and entrants a successful day of competition.
