Minister Urges Farmers to Avail of the New Farm Safety Scheme

The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney  TD, has reiterated his call to farmers to avail of the grants available under the new Farm Safety Scheme and to submit any applications for aid as soon as possible. “My Department has put together a comprehensive list of investment items under this new Scheme and I would urge all farmers to examine this carefully. It might be the best investment ever carried out on the farm”, the Minister said.

All of the documentation in relation to the scheme is available on the Department’s website. The Minister advised that the amount of funding available for the Scheme is €12.2m and the grant rate will be 40% of the maximum eligible investment ceiling of €20,000 – in other words, a maximum grant of €8,000 is available.

In order to speed-up the issuing of approvals, it is intended to operate two tranches with the budget divided evenly between both tranches. The cut-off date for the first tranche will be Friday 28th November 2014 with the second tranche opening on Monday 1st December 2014.

The closing date for receipt of applications will be Friday 9th January 2015 and all work must be completed by farmers and a payment claim lodged with the Department by Monday, 31 August 2015.

Farmers should be aware when making their application, that only applications where the total cost of the works proposed comes to at least €2,000 can be considered for assistance under the new Scheme.
