Funding for Participation in SUMFOREST ERA-NET - Sustainable forests for the society of the future
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) invites eligible Irish Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) to submit joint research proposals under the FP7 ERA-NET SUMFOREST.
The SUMFOREST Call, entitled "Sustainable forests for the society of the future", is seeking basic and applied research proposals to support policy decisions regarding multifunctional forestry. The Call address the following three thematic research areas
- Comparative assessment of the sustainability performance of forest-based, other renewable and non-renewable raw material-based value chains to inform policy decisions.
- Risk resilient forest management - Adapting forest management regimes which incorporate risk assessment related to potential climate change impacts to inform policy decisions.
- Investigation, appraisal and evaluation of trade-offs related to the provision of forest ecosystem services to inform policy decisions.
The SUMFOREST consortium consists of partner organisations from 20 European and other countries who have pledged a combined budget of up to €9 million to successful project proposals. DAFM has pledged to commit up to €350,000 in funding for successful Irish participants. Proposals are expected to be transnational, and involve a minimum of two eligible Irish RPO’s. Innovative forms of cooperation such as interdisciplinarity are encouraged.
The Call opened on 21st March 2016 and the SUMFOREST Call Guidelines for Irish Applicants (pdf 774Kb) details the funding opportunities for Irish-based and Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) approved, RPOs.
A one-step application process will be used in this call. Proposals (in English) must be submitted electronically by 3 pm CET on 17th June 2016.
