Funding for Participation in WaterWorks; ERA-NET Cofund on sustainable water use in agriculture and reduction of soil/water pollution

The WaterWorks2015 European Research Area Network (ERA-Net) Cofund, a collaboration of Water JPI and FACCE JPI, aims to achieve more sustainable water use in agriculture to increase water use efficiency and reduce soil and water pollution (this is a common theme to the Strategic Research Agendas of the two collaborating JPIs).

A joint call for proposals under the ERA-Net Cofund WaterWorks is now open for applications. WaterWorksseeks applications to address Sustainable management of water resources in agriculture, forestry and freshwater aquaculture sectors under the following main Call Challenges:

  1. Increasing the efficiency and resilience of water uses;
  2. Monitoring and reducing soil and water pollution;
  3. Integrating social and economic dimensions into the sustainable management and governance of water resources.

While the Call Announcement seeks proposals addressing one or several challenges, Irish participants MUST limit their contribution to the specific Challenge 2 (Monitoring and reducing soil and water pollution), to be eligible for national funding. This will need to be clearly identified in the pre-proposal application.

The EPA with the assistance of DAFM have committed €550,000 in funding for successful Irish applicants in this Call. The WaterWorks consortium consists of funders from 22 countries and the European Commission who have committed up to c. €25 million towards the Call.

Further details including the Call Announcement (which details the call sub-topics under each challenge) and application details are available to access at the Water JPI 2016 Joint Call website:

The Irish guidelines are available on page 15 of the National/Regional Regulations which can be downloaded on the Water JPI webpage above.

Please note the closing date for pre-proposals applications is 19 April 2016 – 17.00 CET.
