Personal Consignments

Personal consignments of plant or animal products have the potential to endanger human, animal or plant health as well as impact the Biodiversity and wider environment if the goods brought into the State do not meet EU requirements. This includes consignments relating to personal luggage as well as those sent via post. Check the requirements and restrictions. There are allowances for certain commodities.

The import of Harmful Organisms from Third Countries (non EU or EEA) on plants and plant products poses a potentially serious threat to national plant production. The impact of an outbreak of a disease or pest on Ireland’s agricultural, horticultural & forestry sectors and by way of the biodiversity of the Irish countryside could be significant. Regulations and lists of products affected can be found here:

There are also strict rules (under EU Commission Regulation (EC) 206/2009) on bringing personal consignments of products of animal origin into Ireland, either in personal luggage or via post.
