Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) - Public Consultation for proposed Afforestation Projects

Under the European Communities (Environmental Impact Assessment)(Amendment)Regulations 2001, all afforestation projects require the prior written approval of the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

Not all afforestation projects require an EIA. An EIA is only required if (i) the project exceeds 50 hectares or (ii) the project is less than 50 hectares but is likely to have a significant effect on the environment.

Before a decision is made to approve or refuse a proposed afforestation project, the Minister must decide if the project requires an EIA.

The lists below give notice of the applications for afforestation approval that are currently being considered. Any person can make a submission on the likely environmental effect of the proposed project within 4 weeks of the date of the notice.

Submissions, or requests for further information, must be made by post or e-mail.
