Responsibilities of Transporter
The operator of a vessel, vehicle or aircraft used to import a cat, dog or ferret into Ireland may not import the cat, dog or ferret unless they have given the Minister prior notice of the intention to import. This responsibility may not be transferred to the passenger.
The operator of a transport business, who imports a cat, dog or ferret into Ireland, must carry out all necessary checks to ensure that the animal is being brought into the State in compliance with EU pet travel rules.
The operator of a transport business must maintain for three years a detailed record of the checks carried out to ensure compliance with EU pet travel rules and make this record available on request to anofficer authorised by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
