The annual Tullamore National Livestock Show was today officially opened by Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Andrew Doyle TD,

Tullamore Show is an opportunity to see some of the finest livestock anywhere in the world.  These quality livestock are a visual representation of our food production sector, one of our most important indigenous sectors” said Minister Doyle in his opening address.

The Tullamore show is firmly established as the largest one day show in the country. There are over a thousand competitions, 700 trade stands in this year’s show with over 60,000 visitors projected for the day. The show has also added a number of new classes this year for Ayrshire Dairy Cattle, Blue Faced Leicester Sheep, and Pigs.

Minister Doyle added, “Livestock production is the backbone of our food production sector and Pedigree breeders play an important role in this because they supply the superior genetics and with the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation are at the forefront of the effort to breed superior stock.”

The Minister also praised the organising committee and the many volunteers for another successful show and wished everyone involved in the Tullamore Show an enjoyable and successful event.

Minister Doyle concluded, “This Show is the culmination of a great deal of voluntary work which represents the best of the co-operative spirit that is so innate to rural Ireland. I commend the many volunteers involved.”
