Welcoming the newly appointed members, the minister said, “An effective board depends on achieving the right mix of people and skills. I wish them every success during their term of office.”
Notes for the Editor
Four of the five appointed members were elected in accordance with Section 18 of the Veterinary Practice Act 2005 and the Veterinary Practice (Amendment) Act 2012. Elections held to appoint registered veterinary practitioners concluded in October 2019. The term of membership of the elected veterinary practitioners will commence on 1st January 2020 and conclude on 31st December 2023.
One of the five appointed members (Muiris O’Ceidigh) was selected under the arrangements involving an open advertisement and assessment system by the Public Appointments Service (PAS) as a result of a resignation from the board. Their term of office begins with immediate effect and continues until 31 December 2021. PAS, established under statute in 2004, provides an independent shared service in recruitment, assessment and selection to organisations across the Civil and Public Services. On 30 September 2014, the government decided that PAS should also be given responsibility for putting in place an open, accessible, rigorous and transparent system to support ministers in making appointments to State Boards.
