Adaptation
A first step towards adapting to future climate change is reducing vulnerability and exposure to present climate variability. The Working Group II report from the IPCC, has identified that steps which build resilience and enable sustainable development can accelerate successful climate-change adaptation globally. Adaptation is the process of adjustment to actual or expected climate and its effects.
In 2016, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine facilitated a public consultation process on a draft document on adaptation planning for the agriculture and forestry sectors under the 2012 National Climate Change Adaptation Framework. The documents below relate to this exercise:

The Adaptation Planning document has been prepared under the non-statutory 2012 National Climate Change Adaptation Framework. A draft statutory National Adaptation Framework as required under the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015 will be issued for public consultation shortly and on foot of this the preparation of a new sectoral adaptation plan will be a legislative requirement in 2018. While the contents of this framework are, as yet, unknown, it is likely that agriculture and forest will be a key sector.
