Inishkea Autumn Fishery Review

The Minister for Agriculture, Food & the Marine has, following representations (made through the North West Regional Inshore Fisheries Forum) revoked the Razor Clam (Conservation of Stocks) (Inishkea Islands) Regulations 2016 to allow fishing to take place.

The decision to revoke the prohibition on fishing was made having regard to:

  • Advice from the Marine Institute on a total allowable catch;
  • Agreement from the North West RIFF that a limited amount of fishing can be sustained up to the taking of the recommended TAC, and;
  • The fishery is open to those sea-fishing boats which meet the licensing and regulatory requirements in place including in relation to monitoring of activity and reporting of catch.

S.I. 137 of 2016 has been revoked as of 8 December 2016.

2017 Mussel Seed Fishery

Please note that a judgment by the Supreme Court on 27th October 2016 found that fishing by Northern Ireland boats within the 0 to 6 nautical mile zone of the territorial waters of the State under the long-standing Voisinage Arrangements is not currently provided for in domestic law.  Please refer to the statement at the link below for further information on the judgment and its impact on eligibility for 2017 mussel seed fishing authorisations.
